3.33. Check of a state and replacement of components of system of ignition

* Authors of the present manual recommend to make check of a condition of VV of an electrical wiring slightly more often - each 80 000 km of a run.

Check of an external state


1. Check of a condition of VV of wires has to be made every time when replacing spark plugs.
2. Check begins with external survey of isolation of wires at the working engine. Drive the car into the dark, well ventilated room, start the engine and make sure of lack of sparking on wires. Sparking is an isolation breakdown sign. Try not to touch moving components in a motive compartment. Make necessary marks on replacement of defective wires, then let's the engine cool down and start checks of a condition of a cover and the runner of the distributor of ignition.
3. Check of candle wires is made serially in order to avoid violation of an order of their connection at assembly. Usually on isolation of company wires there is the corresponding marking. In case of absence that, put it independently by means of an adhesive tape and a marker.
4. Disconnect VV a wire from a spark plug (best of all use the special tool). Do not pull for a wire, only for its tip at all.

On models of the last years of release for the purpose of ensuring access to spark plugs it is necessary to remove the top cover from a cover of a head of cylinders.

5. Examine internal walls of a tip. Corrosion is usually shown in the form of a fragile korkoobrazny raid of white color. In case of strong oxidation replace a wire.
6. Pull a tip back on a shaft of the candle, make sure of density of its landing. In case of need again remove a tip and as appropriate turn in plugs in a rubber cover.
7. Wipe with pure rags a wire on all its length, having completely removed traces of dirt and lubricant from the surface of isolation. Examine isolation of a wire on existence of cracks, traces of a progar and other damages. Try not to bend a wire under acute angles in order to avoid violation of integrity of veins of the conductor in isolation.
8. Disconnect a wire from the distributor, - again pull only for a tip, but not for a wire. Check a tip for existence of signs of corrosion, estimate density of landing it on the plug. Again connect a wire to the distributor.
9. Working in a similar manner, serially check a condition of all remained candle wires. Make sure of reliability of their connection to candles and plugs of the distributor.
10. In need of performance of replacement of VV of wires (see below) track that replaceable wires corresponded on the standard size to parameters of the engine of your car. In company shops of automobile accessories and service centers of the Mitsubishi company it is always possible to get sets of VV of the wires, ready to the use, cut on length and equipped with tips. Remove and replace wires serially in order to avoid violation of an order of ignition.

Measurement of resistive resistance


1. Check of resistive resistance of VV of an electrical wiring is made by means of an ohmmeter. Excessive specific resistance of candle wires is the cause of admissions of ignition and refusals at start of the engine in the conditions of the increased atmospheric humidity.
2. Measurement is performed for each wire separately. The ohmmeter is connected between trailer plugs of a wire. The description of the procedure of removal and VV installation of wires/cover of the distributor of ignition is given below.

3. Having taken readings, compare the received results to requirements of Specifications. The nominal rate makes 1333 ÷ 2000 Ohm/dm. Wires with the increased specific resistive resistance are subject to replacement.

Removal and installation


1. Remove an air cleaner air inlet sleeve.
2. At the corresponding complete set of the car remove the central cover from a cover of a head of cylinders.
3. Mark VV an electrical wiring by means of an adhesive tape, try to remember a route of laying of each of wires.
4. Starting with the longest, serially disconnect wire VV from candles and from bobbin modules / covers of the distributor of ignition.
5. At installation to the place of an old electrical wiring you watch closely observance of an order of connection of wires (see the marking put before removal).
6. New wires have to correspond in accuracy removed from the car on a standard size.
7. Grease protective covers of tips of VV of wires with dielectric lubricant and put tips on plugs of modules of an ignition/cover of the distributor. Track reliability of fixing of tips.
8. Having laid each of candle wires according to the scheme made in the course of dismantle, connect them to the corresponding spark plugs (begin with laying of the longest wire and act on decreasing).
9. In conclusion establish into place an air inlet sleeve.

Cover and runner of the distributor


1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting the battery make sure that you have the correct combination for input of the audio system in action!

2. Mark and disconnect from a VV distributor cover an electrical wiring (see above).
3. Turn out fixing screws / release clamps and uncover the distributor case.
4. Mark adjusting position of the runner and remove it from a distributor shaft.
5. Good practice is replacement of a cover and the runner of the distributor of ignition regardless of their state every time at installation of new VV of wires. When using old components carefully smooth out the contact surfaces of their plugs and measure resistance between wires and a cover (see above). In case of need replace a cover and/or wires.
6. If replacement of a cover and the runner of the distributor is not in the plan of the carried-out works, carefully wash out the removed components soap solution and dry them (whenever possible with use of compressed air). Make sure that after rubbing of components the podlipshy and got stuck fibers and particles of pile did not remain rags on them.

7. Attentively examine a distributor cover on existence of cracks, chips of facing of plugs, traces of a progar, coal paths and other defects; estimate a condition of the central button of contact electrodes / plugs.

8. Estimate a condition of a working tip and a spring of the runner.

9. Installation of components is made as it should be, the return to an order of their dismantle. At installation of a new cover of the distributor transfer to it from old VV of a wire, connecting them it is strict in a certain order in order to avoid violation of an order of ignition, - try not to disconnect all wires at the same time, you transfer them serially.

The order of ignition is specified in Specifications at the beginning of the present Chapter. On the majority of models the protective ledge (facing) of the plug of connection of a wire of a spark plug of the first cylinder on a cover of the distributor is appropriately marked.
