5.8. Check of serviceability of functioning and replacement of the block of the sensor of the measuring instrument of temperature of cooling liquid

Start implementation of the procedure only after full cooling of the engine! See also preventions at the beginning of the Section Antifreeze - general information. Remember that at the included ignition the fan of the cooling system can work even at the killed engine.

Check of the measuring instrument

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect an electrical wiring from the measuring instrument sensor block.

2. Connect a suitable lamp sampler (12 B/3.4 W) between the sensor socket from a plait of an electrical wiring and weight.
3. Include ignition.
4. If all components function regularly, the lamp sampler has to light up, and the arrow of the measuring instrument of temperature - to deviate. If the lamp works regularly, but the arrow does not move, replace the measuring instrument (see the Head Onboard electric equipment), previously having checked a condition of the corresponding safety lock and an electrical wiring. If neither the lamp, nor the measuring instrument react to inclusion of ignition, check a condition of the corresponding electrical wiring, make necessary recovery repair, replace the failed components.

Check of the sensor

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Merge cooling liquid from the engine block, having lowered its level lower than the level of an arrangement of the sensor.
2. Disconnect an electrical wiring and remove the sensor block.

3. Lower a working tip of the sensor in a vessel with hot water, having recorded temperature of the last by means of the thermometer.

4. By means of an ohmmeter measure resistance between plugs of the socket of the sensor lowered in water.
5. Compare result of measurement to requirements of Specifications (the nominal rate should not exceed the limit of the range of 2.21 ÷ 2.69 kOhm for temperature of 20 °C, 264 ÷ 328 Ohms for temperature of 70 °C and 90.5 ÷ 117.5 Ohms for temperature of 80 °C).
6. The faulty sensor is subject to replacement.

Replacement

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.

If the stereosystem established on the car is equipped with a security code before disconnecting the battery make sure that you have the correct combination for input of the audio system in action!

2. Get the drain capacity suitable on volume under a cooling system radiator.
3. Merge cooling liquid, having lowered its level lower than the level of an arrangement of the sensor.

4. Disconnect an electrical wiring from the sensor and turn out it from a thermostat casing by means of a deep face head.

5. Screw to the place of the removed sensor new which carving previously grease with conducting sealant (not a teflon tape or the film FUM). Tighten the sensor with the required effort (10 ÷ 12 H • м).

6. Connect an electrical wiring.
7. Fill the cooling system and make sure of serviceability of functioning of the measuring instrument of temperature (see above).
